Shayla's always been the pracical type. Do what needs to be done, move on. Coupled with her ingrained habits of keeping a low profile, spending as little money as possible, & basically paring herself down to the bare essentials, she's never really explored her creative side. It's just never occured to her, she's been too busy just doing what needs to be done. Shayla's always been able to build on existing ideas, modifying them to what she needs or wants. But coming up with things out of nothing has always been difficult for her.

In comes alyssa. Who's been being a girl all her life. When shayla was keeping herself as inconspicuous as possible, alyssa was experimenting with hair, clothes, makeup, you name it. So she's way way better at coming up with ideas for things than shayla is. She's a good example for shayla. She's got different ways of looking at things. Able to come up with good ideas out of nothing.

There's a part of shayla that wonders if she's boring. Miss Practical, the one that establishes a habit & doesn't deviate from it. But as she thinks about it it seems as though she's never had a chance to expand in such a manner. Too many external limits, things that precluded an environment in which she could actually begin to explore what she can and can't do.

So now that shayla's been here a while and has settled into her service to her Master, she's got more opprotunity to explore this facet of hers. Alyssa's been a tremendous help in just the short time she's been here. Shayla's simply been following her example. It's an old hang-up of shayla's, this reluctance to think 'outside the box'. She's spent too much time staying in her comfort zone. But she's learning how to do it, little by little. It takes a second for her to offer what she thinks of or comes up with to Master. That second is spent fighting this old knee-jerk reaction of hers to not be seen. Once, months ago, Master made the comment that he could not imagine shayla coming to him, wanting to show him something that she's done or thought up. That statement cut deeply, as shayla couldn't imagine it either.

This learning to want to show him things, ask him his opinion about what she's come up with has been taking time. Once again, she's been re-learning something. And the neat thing is she has actually been enjoying doing this lately. He seems to like it, as much for what shayla has been doing as the fact that she's been coming to him with them.
